In 1961, Ross Anthony Scianna’s mother, Helen Scianna Gianfrancesco, realized her dream of operating her own restaurant when she opened Antone’s Restaurant and Confetti Lounge on Market Street in Youngstown. Then just 10 years old, Scianna worked all manner of jobs at the restaurant, including dishwasher, but it was developing the recipes with his mother that he developed a passion for food.

Fast-forward to today, and Antone’s Banquet Centre has become the Mahoning Valley’s premier specialty catering center. Serving food made from scratch from Scianna’s original family recipes, Antone’s is known for its homemade sauces and salad dressings, pasta and meatballs. Scianna has also developed recipes from international influences, including Greek, Indian and Chinese among others, while maintaining his mother’s tradition of making everything by hand. Together with Executive Chef Devlin Scianna, he creates dishes and menus for customers in the Culinary Arts style that exceed expectations.

“If a client asks us for something special, Chef Devlin and I can create that meal,” he says. “Not only does it taste good, but it looks outstanding. Things that we do, nobody else does.”

Antone’s is a proponent of using as much locally grown food as possible to not only maintain a high level of quality in its dishes, but also to support local farmers and producers. Scianna and Chef Devlin take the extra steps to promote local produce and raise awareness of eating local.

“I think it’s great to mix fresh produce and meats and locally grown food products into a wonderful culinary experience,” he says. “It’s very important not only to work with our local people, but it’s also the freshest food you’re ever going to get.”

In addition to local success, Scianna has cooked for a number of celebrities and notable people, including former Vice President Dan Quayle, Bill Cosby, the Beach Boys, and sports legends such as Dan Marino, Joe Montana and Tommy Lasorda. With the addition of his wife, DelRae, as company president, Scianna expects the
success of Antone’s Banquet Centre to continue.
